30 September-1 October 2010:
Northwoods Children's Book Conference

Please join us on Thursday evening, September 30th, for the eighth annual Northwoods Children's Book Conference in beautiful Cable, Wisconsin. This year the conference will be held at Lakewoods Resort, just 8.4 miles east of Cable on County Road M. Anyone who has already been to this conference knows it's a warm and friendly atmosphere with spectacular scenery, good food, and delightful camaraderie between attendees and faculty. The opportunities for learning are good, too! There are three separate learning tracks for librarians (both public and school), educators (K through 12 and college), and writers.

The faculty this year include Anita Silvey as keynote speaker, talking about Everything I Need to Know I Learned from a Children's Book. In fact, we'll all have an opportunity at the end of the conference to share the children's book that has most influenced our own lives. Joining Anita on Thursday afternoon for the intensive Workshops are Candace Fleming and Eric Rohmann. Take a peek at the sessions to learn more about their topics.

On Friday, it's sessions all day as Muskadee L. Montano, Laura Purdie Salas, Marsha Qualey, Megan Schliesman, Lee Ann Landstrom, Karen I. Shragg, Steve Palmquist, Vicki Palmquist, and Merri Lindgren add their knowledge and book recommendations to the mix.

This conference is co-sponsored by Children's Literature Network, Northern Waters Library Services, Redbery Books, and the Telemark Education Foundation, Inc.

Register today! You won't want to miss one moment of this conference about which one of our attendees wrote last year, "Don't tell people about this conference, okay? It's the best one I've been to, including national conferences, and I don't want there to be a lot more people here." We trust you'll feel the same way and we'll see you every year, too.

Redbery Writers' Retreat

If you're a writer with dreams and intentions of being published, one who would like to be inspired, learn more about the business, and get to know a group of writers who are walking down the same path, then you'll want to participate in the Redbery Writers' Retreat in Cable, Wisconsin, at the Lakewoods Resort, immediately following the Northwoods Children's Book Conference.

Whether you are attending the conference (highly recommended) and the retreat, or just the retreat by itself), this is the perfect opportunity to revitalize yourself and your writing dream.

The Retreat's facilitators are Lisa Bullard and Laura Purdie Salas, who between them have oodles of experience with writing, editing, teaching, and the whole business of children's literature. They've put together a schedule that includes 35% group time, 20% feedback and sharing time, 30% individual writing time, and 15% social time. The retreat environment is inspiring in itself. Lake, woods, endless sky, a warm fire if it's needed, autumn color ... all of that would be inspirational enough, but you'll be surrounded by other people who love writing as much as you do, some who will guide you and others who will learn alongside you. What could be better?

Please register today ... only 15 registrants will be accepted.

This Retreat is co-sponsored by Children's Literature Network and Redbery Books.
