Anne McCaffrey Dragonriders of Pern
Ship Who Sang Acorna

Born on April 1st in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Anne McCaffrey is one of the most respected science fiction authors writing today. The fourteen novels in her Dragonriders of Pern series are widely read, as are her many other books, including Restoree, The Ship Who Sang, and Acorna.

She graduated from Radcliffe College with a major in Slavonic languages and literature. She became a character actress, studying voice for nine years, and trying her hand at directing opera and operettas. She was married in 1950 and has three children. Her first novel, Restoree, was published by Ballantine in 1967, but her first short story was published in Science Fiction magazine in 1954.

Today, she lives in a house she designed in County Wicklow, Ireland, where she runs a private livery stable. And she writes.
