Have you ever heard of haiku? If you have, then you probably know the name Ann Atwood, who celebrates her birthday on February 12th. Many of her books, most of which are unfortunately now out of print, focus on this style of writing. Look for them at your library.
"Haiku has been called the poetry of sensation," Ann Atwood writes, "but primarily it is a visual experience." You can see her photography coupled with her words in My Own Rhyme: An Approach to Haiku (1973).
Luminous silence
Only color filling the space
Between night and day
Mingling with the wild
Rustling sound of the branches
The shout of the child
