Nancy Bond celebrates her birthday on January 8th. She was born in Bethesda, Maryland, and raised in England and Massachusetts. Graduating from Mount Holyoke College and the College of Librarianship in Wales, she became a library director in Massachusetts. In 1976, her first work of fiction was published: A String in the Harp received a Newbery Honor and the Boston Globe-Horn Book award in 1977. She taught writing at Simmons College in the Children's Literature program and worked in a bookstore in Massachusetts. In 1982, The Voyage Begun won her second Boston Globe-Horn Book award. Set in the not-so-distant future, it's a fictional novel about climate changes and environmental pollution. Other titles include The Best of Enemies, Country of Broken Stone, Truth to Tell, and Another Shore.
