I am a former elementary school teacher who has been working as a children's author and illustrator for the past 18 years. I have published nearly thirty books, including picture books, puzzle books, books of family activities, and a young adult novel.

When I am not writing, illustrating, or visiting schools as the author/illustrator-in-residence, I enjoy reading, traveling, and orienteering, playing games, and of course, reading.

I also love to carve pumpkins and my creations have been featured for several years on "Good Morning America."

The End
Arthur A. Levine Books/Scholastic, 2007
ages 4 to 8, ISBN 978-0-439-64011-4

Usually a story begins at the beginning...but not this one! The End starts with "And they all lived happily ever after," then winds its way backwards past a soggy knight, a frightened dragon, 100 bunny rabbits, an enormous tomato, and a very hungry giant, until at last it arrives at a clever princess and "Once upon a time." Going backwards has never been so much fun!

Absolutely, Positively Not

Absolutely, Positively Not
Arthur A. Levine Books/Scholastic, 2005
ages 9 to 12, ISBN 978-0-439-59109-6

Sixteen-year-old Steven DeNarski doesn’t know if he’ll pass his driver’s test or if he’ll ever understand his parents, but there’s one thing he’s sure of: he’s absolutely, positively NOT gay. He sets out to prove it by collecting photos of girls in bikinis, sitting at the jock table at school, and dating like crazy. “Absolutely” takes a humorous look at the life of a regular boy who’s finding out what it takes to be a real man.

Dutton Books, 2004
ages 4 to 8, ISBN 978-0-525-47129-5

Reading Guide available from Minnesota Storytime

This boy-wants-dog story with a twist is both snappy and endearing.  The little boy's mother won't let him have a dog. Dogs are too messy and too loud. But she says he can have a dragon for a pet—if he can find one.  Enter the coolest—but naughtiest—pet ever. The dragon is messier and louder than any dog. And he will not leave. How will the boy ever get a dog now?

Wry, stylish illustrations with an appealing retro look perfectly complement the spare, witty text. A comical, engaging story for anyone who's ever wanted a pet!
